Summer Fun!

Well I'm back!  I had a fun summer I made a lot of diffrent cakes but my most popular this summer was the Sweet Sixteen.  I learn something new with every new order that I get.  I thought I was doing it big because I was making cakes for people that I don't know.  Hopefully I'll be making it to the big time soon.

Spongebob Saved My Life

So I'm always looking for ways to show off what I know I can do.  I find it within myself to just experiment with cake designs just because.  It seems like a waste and I don't want to feed all that cake to my family because then I'll have to spend the rest of my life helping them with their diabetes. :)  So when a friend of mine asked me to make a spongebon cake for her daughter's 3rd birthday party I was so excited.  I made a fudge marble cake with buttercream frosting (made from scratch and tinted myself) and it turned out wonderful so here's the picture. I made a spongebob cake on top of a base cake tinted blue like the ocean.

The Start of Something New!

Soooo I've been getting a few orders here and there for my cakes and cupcakes.  I recently made cupcakes for my daughter's 10th birthday party and a half sheet cake for my friend's sons' birthday as well.  I really hope this business of mine takes off.  I'm actually about to invest in myself with some decorating classes!

The Start of Something New!

Friday started out like any other day.  I got up woke Desmond up to take the trash out and left for work.  I was at work for exactly 35 minutes when our manager called me to say "Can you come over to my office".  I knew right then something was wrong.  I drove across the street to her office right away.  When I walked in I see the manager, the general manager, and the head of human resources from Chicago.  So you know I was like "What the hell is going on."  They sat me down and explained that they were cutting back and that I was being let go.  I sat there while they went over the severance package and told me how they wouldn't fight unemployment because it wasn't my fault that I was being let go.  So an hour later I got in my car and drove home after all my goodbyes.  I decided to go on as planned and get myself a laptop.  I met my sister at Sam's and after alot of comparing I picked one that I thought was perfect.  I got home and plugged it up and once all the set ups were done the background popped up and guess what it was.  A bakery!  I have been wanting to start my own baking business for as long as I can remember.  So of course I said "this is a sign".  So I've decided to start my own business and I will me sharing all of my ups and downs with you everyday.  I was thinking of Julia and Julia and thought maybe I'll bake my way through a cookbook.  I hope you enjoy and give me great feed back and ideas.  Maybe you can even send me questions and recipes that you would like me to try and I will let you know how they were.  So follow me through my journey to start something new.
